I can get you a toe.
This upcoming weekend is the 7th Annual Lebowski Fest in Louisville, KY. Started by dudes Will Russell and Scott Shuffitt, the Fest encompasses all things “Lebowski:” bowling, drinking White Russians, pacifism, nihilism, movie quotations, rock bands performing, being an Achiever, and what-have-you. This year’s special guests include Chef Duff from “Ace of Cakes,” Mike Doughty, comedian Brian Posehn, and special guest Liam.
For the underachievers, “The Big Lebowski,” is a film by the Coen Bros. about The Dude, a.k.a. Jeff Lebowski, the protagonist of the venture. When two guys mistake The Dude for a handicapped millionaire with the same name it’s up to him to find out why and if possible, get a new rug (“It really tied the room together, man.”) But not before bowling. From there the journey descends into a maelstrom of bowling, German nihilists, CCR, the Eagles, pacifism, and the mysterious disappearance of “Bunny” Lebowski.
Reportedly when Russell and Shuffitt met they traded quotes from the movie and realized, through bowling, that others knew and loved the movie as well. This led to the founding of the Fest. Since its inception in 2002, Lebowski Fests have been attended in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Seattle, Austin, Edinburgh, London, and San Francisco.
If ya got a few bucks and are in the Louisville area, stop by for the Fest. For more information, check out the official site at:
