In Passing… Bettie Page (1923-2008)

1950s pin-up queen Bettier Page passed away from pneumonia yesterday at the age of 85. Page began modeling in the Fifties, eventually becoming a centerfold in Playboy magazine in 1955. From there her image was on playing cards, record albums and posters. She embodied the hidden sexuality of the culture of that time. In 1957, faced with federal agents and religious activists shoving her pictures at her she retreated from modeling and eventually found religion. Staying under the radar she resurfaced in the Nineties, thanks to the film, “The Rocketeer.” She began signing autographs but insisted her photo not be taken. Interest would rise again with Gretchen Moll playing Bettie in the indie flick, “The Notorious Bettie Page.”

Thoughts and prayers to her friends.
