The following are movie release schedules with their current projected release dates as of 1/2009. These dates may change as the year progresses. Enjoy, and see you at the movies.

 

January Movie Releases

 

“Bride Wars” – Anna Hathaway and Katie Hudson are best friends who are planning on getting married on the same day. Hilarity and hijinks ensue, I’m guessing. Opens January 9th, 2009

 

“Che” – Benicio del Toro in the first part of a two-part film series by Steven Soderbergh about revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara. Opens January 9, 2009

 

“Not Easily Broken” – Drama about love and family starring Morris Chestnut, based on the book by author/pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes. Opens January 9, 2009

 

“Nothing But the Truth” – Kate Beckinsale plays a D.C. reporter who outs a CIA agent but refuses to reveal her source. Also stars Alan Alda, Matt Dillon, and Angela Bassett. Opens January 9, 2009

 

“The Reader” – Ralph Fiennes is a British guy trying to unravel the mystery of his past: a woman (Kate Winslet) who made him read to her who was tried for Nazi war crimes. Opens January 9, 2009

 

“The Unborn” – Odette Yustman has a family curse that dates back to Nazi Germany involving an evil that possesses someone and gets stronger with each possession. Also stars Gary Oldman. Opens January 9, 2009

 

“Hotel for Dogs” – Two teens transform a vacant house into a hotel for dogs. Stars Emma Roberts and Don Cheadle. Opens January 16, 2009

 

“My Bloody Valentine” – Remake of the slasher film, in 3-D! Opens January 16, 2009

 

“Notorious” – A biopic on the life of rapper Christopher Wallace, a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G. Opens January 16, 2009

 

“Paul Blart: Mall Cop” – Kevin James tries to be all that he can be: a mall security guard. Trouble arises when Santa’s helpers take the mall hostage, and Blart must become a real cop to save the day. Opens January 16, 2009

 

“Inkheart” – Following the same theme of “Bedtime Stories,” this one has Brendan “That’s FRAY-ZER, Not PHRASE-JOUR!” Fraser reading a book that comes to life. Opens January 23, 2009

 

“Possession” Sarah Michelle Gellar is a woman caught between her husband and his brother. When both are in a car accident the brother awakens and claims that he’s her husband. I wanna be that guy… Opens January 23, 2009

 

“Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans” – A prequel to the two previous films. Stars Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, and Rhona Mitra. Opens January 23, 2009

 

“New in Town” – Renee Zellweger is an ambitious company exec living in Miami who suddenly gets transferred to Minnesota. Hilarity and attraction to Harry Connick, Jr, ensue. Opens January 30, 2009

 

“Taken” – A former spy breaks out his skills to find his daughter before she’s forced into the slave trade. Stars Liam Neeson and Famke Janssen. Opens January 30, 2009

 

“The Uninvited” – A woman returns home to find her father engaged. When she’s visited by the ghost of her mother, she and her sister must convince their father that their stepmother-to-be is not who she pretends. Opens January 30, 2009

 

 

February Releases

 

“Dance Flick” – The Wayans Bros. are back this time spoofing movies such as “Save the Last Dance,” “O,” “Hairspray,” “You Got Served,” and “High School Musical. I thought the trailer was funny… Opens February 6, 2009

 

“Fanboys” – The “will it be released?” movie of the past two years, if ya haven’t heard of it is about a group of guys storming the Skywalker Ranch before the release of “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.” Looking back, I’m glad I never thought up this idea… Opens February 6, 2009

 

“He’s Just Not That Into You” – Ginnifer Goodwin, with the help of Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Connelly, Drew Barrymore and Scarlett Johansson, try to figure guys (Ben Affleck, Justin Long, etc.) out. I just wasn’t that into the trailer… Opens February 6, 2009

 

“Pink Panther 2” – Steve Martin reprises his role as Inspector Clouseau. This time around, he has to stop a continent-wide crime wave. Opens February 6, 2009

 

“Push” – Psychic espionage movie (that’s a first) about altered people with extraordinary powers getting revenge on the agency that created them. Stars Chris Evans and Dakota Fanning. Opens February 6, 2009

 

“Confessions of a Shopaholic” – Isla Fisher is a college financial grad who supports her shopping habit by being a financial journalist and looking for a wealthy entrepreneur. Opens February 13, 2009

 

“Friday the 13th” – Remake of the classic 80’s movie. Opens February 13, 2009

 

“The International” – Clive Owen is an Interpol agent spearheading an investigation into financial corruption. Naomi Watts is an attorney who teams up with him to take a bank down. Opens February 13, 2009

 

“New York, I Love You” – An anthology of twelve short films, all shot in the Big Apple. Stars include Kevin Bacon, Orlando Bloom, Ethan Hawke, James Caan, Eli Wallach. John Hurt, Natalie Portman, etc. Directors include Brett Ratner and Scarlett Johansson. Opens February 13, 2009

 

“They Came From Upstairs” – Comedy about a family moving into their vacation home, which is currently occupied by CG aliens. Stars Tim Meadows and Kevin Nealon. Opens February 13, 2009

 

“Under the Sea 3D” – IMAX 3D literally goes under the sea taking place off the coasts of South Australia and New Guinea. Opens February 13, 2009

 

“Fired Up” – Two popular high school guys ditch football camp for cheerleader camp. Opens February 20, 2009

 

“Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail” – The Tyler Perry brand name continues with this one. Opens February 20, 2009

 

“Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience” – Fairly explanatory. Opens February 27, 2009

 

 

March Releases

 

“Watchmen” – Warner Bros. has currently knocked-back Zack Snyder’s adaptation of the Eighties graphic novel. Opens March 6, 2009

 

“Race to Witch Mountain” – Disney remaking Disney, this time with Dwayne Johnson s a Vegas cabbie taking two teenagers to Witch Mountain. When he finds they’re really aliens and are on the run from government agents and an alien bounty hunter, he takes it upon himself to protect them. Opens March 13, 2009

 

“Duplicity” – Clive Owen is ex-MI6. Julia Roberts is ex-CIA. Together, they plan to make two rival companies go at each other. Opens March 20, 2009

 

“I Love You, Man” – Paul Rudd is engaged to Rashida Jones, but has no male friends. So, he schedules “man-dates” in order to find a Best Man. Opens March 20, 2009

“Knowing” – Nic Cage examines a letter from a time capsule with a code that predicts future events. Opens March 20, 2009

 

“Knowing” – When a time capsule is unearthed at City Hall Nic Cage finds a paper with a series of code on it that foretell future events. Directed by Alex Proyas (“The Crow, “Dark City”) Opens March 20, 2009

 

“Adventureland” – A 1987 period-piece where a recent college graduate (Jesse Eisenberg) gets a job at an amusement park. Opens March 27, 2009

 

“Monsters vs. Aliens” – Dreamworks CGI film about an alien poised to take over the Earth until the U.S. Government releases their secret weapon: a team of monsters (gelatinous blob, scientist/cockroach, fish-man, giant insect, and 50-foot-tall woman). Looks like it’ll be fun. Opens March 27, 2009
